Top actress, Leslie Ash, who is still recovering from MSSA that she contracted whilst in a London hospital by staff with infected hands and which nearly left her paralysed, has been prompted to form a company to market a new anti-bacterial hand wash range named MATRON.
The MATRON product range has been specially formulated with help from KWL, a leading UK-based health and beauty company, to kill the bacteria that can cause the disease MRSA and MSSA on the hands, the biggest documented source of bacteria transfer between people.
Primarily developed with a leading NHS supplier to hospitals, MATRON, is also available direct to the general public for everyday use and peace of mind around the home, at work and at the gym – all potential MRSA and MSSA infection spread areas.
“I am determined to fight this super bug situation any way I can and to help educate people as to the situation within certain hospital wards, especially whilst the epidemic continues and new cases of MRSA and MSSA are diagnosed every day due to people with infected hands.
”If this new product prevents just one person from having to go through what I have it will be worthwhile.” Says Leslie Ash.
MATRON is available to the general public via major supermarket chains nationwide, packaged in easy to use 200ml dispenser bottles with a RRP price of just £3.99 Not only is MATRON 100% proven effective against MRSA, MSSA, E-COLI, SALMONELLA and many other bacterial infections on your hands; it has also been developed so as to not dry-out the hands like some alcohol-based dry gel products.
It has added moisturising agents and organic aloe Vera to greatly enhance kindness to your hands.
MATRON is available in two fresh fragrances Balm Mint and Citrus Lemon so there is no strong hospital detergent smell – the effect is just like using a conditioning soap on your hands except you do not require water or soap to use it. New products are also in development and will be added to the range at a later date.
According to Ken Wells, KWL’s Managing Director,” We are delighted to be working with Leslie on this project. Leslie’s own story and struggle against the disease, prove how devastating infection can be and why it is so important to take action now, whilst we wait for government and the Health Service to implement long term strategies to ensure such a needless epidemic does not happen again.
Leslie’s high profile will help us increase awareness of everyone’s personal care responsibilities and help stop the spread of these potentially deadly super bugs, which is primarily transmitted via the hands.
We are also grateful for the major retailers such as Tesco Pharmacy, Sainsbury's, Superdrug, Morrisons, Netto Alliance-Unichem and AAH Pharmacies (including Waitrose MOSS Pharmacies supplied by Unichem) , for their prompt recognition of a need to make these products immediately available to the general public. Situated in the HealthCare section MATRON has been sensibly priced to encourage regular usage and is the only product available with this unique formulation that is priced to provide everyday affordable care and peace of mind.

Half of trusts 'behind MRSA target'
Half of NHS hospital trusts in England are behind the target to cut rates of the MRSA superbug by 50% by 2008, the Government said.
The Department of Health said the NHS was still not progressing fast enough in cutting rates of the killer infection.
Health Minister Jane Kennedy said she was disappointed at the rate of progress to cut cases of the infection, which is thought to kill thousands of patients each year.
The latest figures showed that in the six month period April to September 2005, there were 3,580 cases of MRSA bloodstream infections reported in England.
This was up from 3,525 for the same period the previous year.
In 2004 former health secretary John Reid set a target of reducing MRSA bloodstream infections by half - from an annual rate of 7,684 cases to 3,842 by 2008. But on Monday the Department of Health said while around half of acute trusts were on target to meet this pledge, half were behind target.
Ms Kennedy said special teams would be sent into 20 trusts facing the greatest challenges in reducing their rates of MRSA.
The NHS must do better, she said. "I am disappointed that despite many trusts making significant reductions in infections the overall figures do not reflect these improvements.
"These are early figures from the period at the very start of the comprehensive programme of action we have put in place," Ms Kennedy said.
"While 7,269 infections is a tiny fraction of the 12 million patients admitted to hospital every year, and more cases are reported now due to better surveillance, any avoidable infection is one too many."

It’s Official
BBC Watchdog on 21/02/06, clarifies that Matron IS a useful weapon against the spread of
MRSA and MSSA
FACT: Matron, the range of bio-disinfectant hand gels, sprays and liquid washes developed by Leslie Ash, kills the bacteria that can cause MRSA and MSSA.
It’s a reassuring fact that seemed, to many consumers; that MATRON BIO-HAND WASH GEL seemed too good to be true at an affordable price and so they turned to trusted consumer programme BBC Watchdog for confirmation.
Watchdog’s investigation into Matron Bio-Hand Gel found that Matron Bio-Hand Wash Gel did indeed KILL the bacteria that can cause MRSA and MSSA.
The confusion in consumers’ minds centred on whether Matron was a prevention or a cure for the disease MRSA. Even though the Matron Bio-Hand Wash Gel clearly states “External use only, not a treatment”
In November 2005 the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulations Authority (MHRA), in discussions with Matron Products Ltd had already assisted Matron to communicate its anti MRSA and MSSA properties with clear and concise wording regarding the bacteria that can cause MRSA, which was reiterated on the programme.
It is hoped that this new initiative from MATRON and Leslie Ash, will help consumers to prevent the spread of MRSA and MSSA in and outside of Hospitals, by taking responsibility for their own and their family’s personal hygiene.
The BMA report on HCAI (Hospital Care Acquired Infection Feb 2006) released this week, re-emphasises the need for all Nursing Staff, Patients and Visitors alike to pay particular attention to hand Hygiene to stop the spread of harmful bacteria in the fight against infection
Watchdog’s Nicky Campbell also confirmed that Matron “‘smells quite nice and does not dry your hands out” A major USP of the product.
On 13th Decemebr 2007 Ken Wells MD of Matron Products Limited was invited to talk on Radio 4's You & Yours, about the need for Matron Products, in light of the Governments failure to hit is 50% reduction target by April 2008. Alan johnson Labours Health Secretary announced that this 2008 target has now been suspended till 2011 and reduced to 30%. In the 6 Years since Brian Duerden was appointed Inspector of Hospital infections, rates have only dropped by 10% and the UK still has the worst record of any country in Europe. A damning record indeed!
